Overview

Responsible for integration of services, operation management, budget assessment of needs, planning, implementation, outcomes tracking and analysis, marketing and development of Surgical Services, supervision of the unit’s directors and coordinator of services with the medical staff.  Under the general direction of the Vice President of Hospital Services, has twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days a week responsibility for the overall integration, collaboration, management and development of Surgical Services. Interviews, hires, evaluates, and monitors director’s compliance with budget’s, policies, procedures, and Continued Process Improvement standards. Employee is subject to call back as required by the hospital.

Responsibilities

Manages and coordinates Surgical Services with the Medical Staff, Patient Care Services and other departments to allow integration of services within the organization.

Develops, coordinates, maintains, and implements policies to guide and support Surgical Services in the provision of services to the customers in coordination with the hospital’s patient care standards.

Interviews and recommends for hire applicants for positions within Surgical Services, monitors work, trains, counsels, evaluates performances, disciplines, and recommends salary adjustments.  Manages directors and approves personnel action for their   

Responsible for determining the qualifications and competencies needed for directors and clinical coordinators.

Recommends to Director and Administrations appropriate staffing patterns and also recommends sufficient number of qualified and competent personnel, and equipment to provide services within Surgical Services.

Accountable for budgetary success, recommends space and other resources needed by Surgical Services, evaluates and recommends the purchase of equipment.

Continually assesses and improves Surgical Services performance through the quality improvement process, as well as appropriate quality control programs.

Responsible for assuring provisions of orientation, inservice training and continuing education for all employees.

Accountable for achieving campus level and system level goals for surgical services.

Represents the Surgical Services at inter-department functions and directs the interrelationships between areas, and represents Surgical Services to the community at  

Coordinates patient care management with the Director’s and Clinical Coordinators through utilization of the nursing process and age specific criteria.  Provides input into the plan for provision of hospital care.

Assures compliance with all regulatory agency requirements.

Assures that sufficient programs are in place to monitor, report and improve patient

Ensures growth in the market place for the Surgical Services by working in coordination with our Managed Care Department and Marketing/Public Relations Department.

Actively participates and promotes behavioral standards and the organizational mission, vision, and values.

Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

BSN is a minimum. MSN preferred. MBA in addition preferred but not required. 

 

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

Current State RN license

Current BLS Certification.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Proficiency in current practices with 5-10 years of recent clinical experience, preferably in a surgical setting.

Previous management experience, supervisory experience is required. A minimum of 5 years required.

Knowledge and ability to demonstrate nursing management according to current hospital policies and procedures as acquired through three months probationary period.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Skill and proficiency in the principles, concepts, and techniques of the nursing profession.
